Valsts sekretārs akreditācijas vizītē pieņem jauno Nīderlandes vēstnieci

On 18 August 2021, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Claudia Magdalena Njoo Pieterse, who had arrived on an accreditation visit.

The State Secretary highlighted the close bilateral relations between Latvia and the Netherlands and he underlined that this past 14 March marked one hundred years since the Netherlands recognised Latvia de jure. The Netherlands is a close ally and an important partner to Latvia in the EU and NATO, as well as other international organisations. The two countries have a close dialogue in all areas and at all levels, including an increasing cooperation between the Baltic States and the Benelux Union.

Andris Pelšs noted that the further exchange of high-level visits and unlocking of potential for economic cooperation, especially in the areas of innovative technologies, organic food and timber products, could result in an even closer bilateral cooperation. The State Secretary also invited the Netherlands to take advantage of Latvia’s “Green Corridor of Investments”.

Andris Pelšs thanked the Netherlands for its contribution to security in the Baltic region and for the excellent bilateral cooperation in the security sector.

The Ambassador has worked at the Development Cooperation Directorate and the European Integration Department of the Foreign Ministry of the Netherlands and has been posted to the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Italy.

The ceremony of her accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 30 August.
