On 31 March and 1 April 2025, the Ambassador-at-Large, Director of the Latvian UN Security Council Campaign Task Force, Andrejs Pildegovičs, and the Director of the International Organisations and Human Rights Department, Katrīna Kaktiņa-Kalniņa, were in London for a working visit. The visit was a follow-up to consultations with the permanent members of the UNSC over Latvia’s candidacy for a seat on the council in 2026– 2027.

In a meeting with the Head of UN and Multilateral Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Phil Dixon, Andrejs Pildegovičs and Katrīna Kaktiņa-Kalniņa presented the latest events and priorities of Latvia’s candidacy, including a commitment to protecting a rules-based international order, standing up for a just peace in Ukraine and its territorial integrity, promoting gender equality, and engaging in facilitating sustainable development and resilience.

Other issues on the UN agenda and broader cooperation in international organizations were also discussed, and Latvia’s close partnership with the United Kingdom in addressing regional and global challenges, especially in relation to providing support to Ukraine, was highly appreciated. The priorities of Latvia's candidacy and further cooperation between the two countries were also underlined in a meeting with the non-resident Ambassador of Belize to Latvia, H.E. Mrs Therese Rath.

In a conversation with the Deputy Director of the Centre for European Reform think-tank and former UK Ambassador to Latvia, Ian Bond, views were exchanged on current European and international foreign policy and security issues.

As part of his visit to London, Andrejs Pildegovičs also took part in a panel discussion at the Baltic Symposium 2025, where he shared a perspective of contribution made by Latvia and the Baltic states to strengthening international peace and resilience. Researchers and experts discussed current regional and global issues from the standpoint of the Baltic states. The event was hosted by University College London.
