On 12 April 2023, a training event on visa-related matters for consular clerks from diplomatic missions and consular posts of Latvia began at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two-day training session at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs will bring together 15 consular clerks – locally employed staff members who are involved in the processing of the uniform Schengen visa applications at Latvia’s diplomatic missions.
The aim of the training is to improve the skills of consular clerks in the processing of visa applications and the protection of personal data, as well as to broaden their knowledge of work with customers, thereby ensuring an even more efficient and customer-oriented service in the process of receiving visa applications at the Latvian diplomatic missions abroad.
Experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, as well as teaching staff from the School of Public Administration contribute to the training session as lecturers.
To ensure that the consular staff acquire the knowledge and skills they need, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also organised regular training courses remotely during the pandemic. This year’s training session is held in person.
The present training session is held as part of a project, “Providing regional training for consular officers on EU policy for issuing uniform visas in line with the requirements of the European Visa Code (2nd stage)”, with financial support from the European Union Internal Security Fund (Contract No. ĀM/IDF/2020/3).
