On 9 May 2023, the Head of the Security Policy and International Organisations Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Jānis Zlamets, met with the participants of a CAPSTONE KEYSTONE PINNACLE 2023 training course organised by the United States National Defence University.
As part of their training, the participants, including high-ranking U.S. military personnel, are visiting several European countries to gain an insight into the security situation in the Euro-Atlantic space and the work of the United States European Command.
Jānis Zlamets introduced the officers to the priorities of Latvia’s foreign and security policy, as well as security-related developments in the region.
An important topic for discussion was the promotion of security and defence cooperation between Latvia and the U.S. Jānis Zlamets underlined that the U.S. was the guarantor of security for Latvia and Europe as a whole and that the U.S. military presence in the Baltic region was an integral part of NATO deterrence and defence posture.
