On 10 December 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, and the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dace Melbārde, held a discussion with members of non-governmental organisations about the annual report on the work accomplished and further lines of action in the country’s foreign policy and the European Union matters.
Non-governmental organisations are important partners to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including in a joint retrospect on and evaluation of the progress made over the year, and identifying future objectives and priorities to be reflected in the Foreign Policy Report.
The meeting was attended by 13 representatives of non-governmental organisations: social partners to the Ministry, business organisations, local government associations, youth organisations, including the UN Youth Delegate Programme, and members of other organisations.
The Annual Foreign Policy Report includes an overview of the international security and economic challenges, as well as the achievements of Latvia in line with the three foreign policy priorities of the country:
- national and public security,
- prosperity and economic development,
- the protection of the nationals’ interests and support for the diaspora.
In accordance with the Saeima Rules of Procedure, a discussion on the report at the plenary session of the Saeima is scheduled for end of January next year. It is aligned with the 104th anniversary of the international de iure recognition of Latvia.
