On Tuesday, 28 January 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Elina Valtonen, who arrives in Latvia on a working visit. In addition to current regional security issues, the Latvian and Finnish ministers will discuss further support to Ukraine, the implementation of an effective sanctions policy against Russia, and the future of transatlantic relations.
During her visit, the Finnish Foreign Minister will also participate in the annual meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions of Latvia and address its participants on the topic of the security of the Nordic-Baltic region from Finland’s perspective.
Since Finland and Sweden joined NATO, the Baltic Sea region has acquired a new outlook for cooperation, dominated by the region’s commitment to strengthening its security. The format of the Baltic States and Nordic countries (NB8) plays an important role in terms of security in the Baltic Sea and the defence of the Baltic airspace and territorial defence.
